Urban Leprosy Project

Collaboration between Hind Kusht Nivaran Sangh and the World Health Organization (WHO) & NLEP under Bangkok declaration

Being implemented in whole of the state of Delhi.

The objectives of the project are:
a.: To reduce leprosy burden by reducing Gr 2 disability rate by 35% by end of the project
-
Improve treatment completion rate to more than 95% in all districts by the end of project
-
Strengthen monitoring of Leprosy program with district level reviews and central registry of patients
-
Involve persons affected for improving referrals
-
To reduce leprosy burden by reducing Gr 2 disability rate by 35% by end of the project

Sensitization and education of patients who are on treatment on the importance of completing the treatment in due time
-
Educating them on self care
-
Providing IEC material to patients and service providers on how to avoid disability
-
Helping patients take appropriate care of wounds
-
Early detection and management of reactions
-
Offering RCS option to patients already affected
-
Sensitization and awareness program in industries, schools and for ASHA
b: Improve treatment completion rate to more than 95% in all districts by the end of project

Preparation of a central register at HKNS for all health institution providing treatment of Leprosy

Scanning of leprosy registers of various health institution for the defaulter cases
-
Visiting them on their given address and trying to convince them to complete their treatment to improve the treatment completion rate

GIS mapping of cases

Sensitization and education of defaulter patients on the importance of completing the treatment in due time
-
Training of laboratory technicians for appropriate lab diagnosis of Leprosy
-
Sensitization and training of ASHA, and health personals for early detection and treatment completion

Setting up a Leprosy helpline – 1800 11 3056
